Moscow Car Bomb Kills Top Russian General Amid Florida Peace Talks

MOSCOW / MIAMI — A high-ranking Russian military official has been assassinated in a brazen car bombing in the heart of Moscow, threatening to derail the most significant diplomatic push to end the war in Ukraine since its inception.

​Lt. Gen. Fanil Sarvarov, the head of the operational training directorate of the Russian General Staff, was killed early Monday morning when an explosive device detonated beneath his vehicle. Reports from Moscow indicate the blast occurred at approximately 7:00 AM on Yaseneva Street.

​Sarvarov was a pivotal figure in the Kremlin’s military hierarchy, having overseen combat readiness for forces currently deployed in Ukraine. Russia’s Investigative Committee has already opened a "terrorism" probe, with officials publicly pointing the finger at Ukrainian special forces.
